A tilted wooden partition divides the gallery space, with one side revealing dust-infused paintings framing the usually unseen but prevailing particles, while the other freezing a hazardous environment of sawdust. Through this stark spatial dichotomy, Chen Ruofan exposes how workers in furniture factories routinely inhale kilograms of sawdust per year, sacrificing their health to economic efficiency in ill-ventilated workshops where safety protocols are routinely ignored for productivity. Working closely with labour collectives and reconstructing industrial debris into poetic testimony, Chen reiterates the health and lives of individuals deserve and need to be equally valued within the endless pursuit of development.
